`Robert Plutchik in 1980 divided emotions into 8 primary and 9 secondary ones. The 8 primary emotions are: Fear, surprise, sadness, disgust, anger, anticipation, joy and acceptance. When they "mix" with each other they produce the 9 secondary emotions. Joy and acceptance produces love. Acceptance and fear produces submission, fear and surprise produces awe, surprise and sadness produce disappointment, sadness and disgust produce remorse, disgust and anger produces contempt, anger and anticipation produces aggression and anticipation and joy produces optimism. These classifications are by no means inclusive.`Taken from the Tangled Synapses book, Ignacio Sanabria, author.

Fear, is a primary emotion and the fear, people fear the most, is fear to the unknown, and/or death. For an individual not knowing the fate of her job prospectus is a sample of fear of the unknown.

Fear is responsible for maintaining an individual alive in case of danger. When danger is imminent, there are three possible reactions: To figh, to flight, or to freeze. In either situation and based on the intensity of fear, small or large secretions of adrenaline, cortisol, and glucose are released.

When fear becomes a constant in the life of the individual, it could lead to phobias, and anxiety. Once phobias and anxiety are developed, the amygdala enter into the fray. In extreme cases it could produce panic attacks and ultimately depression.

Key elements to control fears, phobias and anxiety, are meditation, and healthy sleeping, exercise and diet habits, along with cognitive therapy.
