Proportion of women who think the government's guidelines recommending against routine breast-cancer screening in women younger than 50 are "unsafe," according to a recent poll by researchers at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Most women also overestimate their chances of developing the disease, the researchers found. In 2009, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force set off a firestorm of controversy when it revised the age at which women should begin routine mammography, from 40 to 50. [via Reuters]
