Number of overweight or obese people in the world in 2010, a 25% increase since 2002, according to a new Worldwatch Institute analysis. About 38% of adults over age 15 in 177 countries are overweight or obese (defined as having a BMI of 25 or higher), a trend that cuts across regions and income levels. The U.S. leads all industrialized countries with 78.6% of the adult population qualifying as overweight, but the fattest nations are Micronesia and Polynesia, where nearly 88% of adults over 15 are overweight.
