Number of lives saved from cancer since 1990 in the U.S. Overall death rates from cancers including lung, colon, breast and prostate have dropped by 1.8% among men and 1.6% among women per year between 2004 and 2008, thanks to stronger prevention programs, better treatments and early detection of tumors.
