Percentage of pregnant women taking drugs to treat high blood pressure, including medications like ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers that aren’t considered safe for fetuses, according to a study of 1 million Medicaid patients. About 6% to 8% of pregnant women have high blood pressure, but little is known about how moms and doctors treat the condition, or about which antihypertensive drugs are the safest and most effective during pregnancy, the authors note, calling urgently for more research.
