Author/photographer for 31 healthiest food must have a dietary deficiency. Item 27 is TUNA, not lean meat. Meat is from animals, not fish.

Good. I have found a similar site that uses different foods as treatment for some serious diseases like cancer and diabetes...

Healthy eating is not about no choice, no chocolate and no cheese. Healthy eating is the practice of making choices about what to eat with the intent of improving or maintaining good health. Experts agree the key to healthy eating is the time-tested advice of balance, variety and moderation.

Many good recommendations however I would avoid or limit many of them.

I feel the primal or paleo approach is the way to go.

I can't for the life figure why people are so Anti-Meat.

I understand that are processing plants leave a lot to be desired. However we've been on this earth for a long time. I can't picture someone turning down meat thousands of years ago waiting for a piece of Tofu to come around.

Whatever.

Funny how they put cow's milk & yogurt on this list, both of which are unhealthy. They should have put almond milk on that list instead. And tuna???? Surely not the garbage in the can, full of mercury, which doctors warn pregnant mothers to avoid, & also young children. The problem is, even if people eat the healthy foods, it won't do much good if their diet consists primarily of animal products. Want to be healthy? VEGGIES!

Extra virgin coconut oil should be on this list.

I'll never be sold on any one particular diet.  I've tried it too many times.  In the end, it just boils down to testing to see what works best for you and I use a mixture of several of the more popular diets to achieve success.

"No one escapes in the end--eventually the traditional western diet guarantees some form of disease in all of us. While it may not be heart disease at the moment, eventually it will be or hypertension, diabetes, stroke, obesity, gall stones, diverticulitis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, or a greater likelihood of breast, prostate, colon, ovarian and uterine cancers. Even erectile dysfunction and dementia. But there is something that you can do now to stop the cascading events that occur in the body and lead to disease. You can change your diet and begin safeguarding your health for the future."

Dr. Esselstyn, www.heartattackproof.com

The groundbreaking book, The China Study, authored by Dr. T. Colin Campbell, reveals what can be described as a startling, yet wholly intuitive, relationship between nutrition and disease. Dr. Campbell found that a whole-foods, plant-based diet can not only lower your risk for certain diseases, it can reverse their progression.

By adopting a diet that has a very high degree of success in decreasing your chances of contracting a chronic disease you are in essence providing yourself with an Insurance Plan.

Here are my results showing plaque reversal in 8 months of a Plant Based diet: http://wholefed.org/2012/05/03...

Why isn't soy milk recommended instead of dairy milk? Silk brand soy milk has 50 percent more calcium,  more vitamin D, and 1/6th as much saturated fat as dairy milk. It has 0 cholesterol (vs. 20 mg for dairy milk), half the sugar, and 270 mg of ALA omega 3 (vs. 20 mg for dairy milk). It's made with non-GMO soy, non-mucus forming, and is much better for the environment and cruelty free. It's delicious too! The chocolate milk is excellent. I feel much better since switching to soy milk, though I still eat some dairy in the form of cheese and yogurt. (No, I don't work for Silk, but I love their product!)

Wow! Wakeup48, what's your educational background? Or are you just picking and choosing what to believe from crap you read on the internet? Anyone can post anything on the internet. I could probably start writing ariticles sighting research that never took place and scources that don't exist, pretending to be a different Dr. So and So Phd in every single one and get a following of poeple just like you who would believe me.

Why is it that health-giving foods have exotic names that shop-keepers have never heard of? Don't answer, there is no explanation, it's a mystery.

This post is not based on scientific evidence. Per dietary researcher Dr. Jeff Volek, it is essential to get enough fat (in meat and in general). Don't eat carbohydrates and be sure you get plenty of meatfat, as Dr. Volek advises here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/a...

Per Gary Taubes' "Why We Get Fat," it is carbohydrates -- sugar, flour, starchy vegetables like potatoes, apple juice -- that cause the insulin secretion that puts on fat. Not meat! If you do not eat unhealthy carbs, and eat meat, with adequate fat, and kale, cooked in bacon grease, you will be far healthier than those who eat disgusting ascetic diets.

This post based on zero evidence. Cardiologist Dr. William Davis on why wheat is the single worst thing you can eat. (There’s no such thing as “healthy whole grains.”)

Can't I just get this as a long article that I can save for future reference, instead of these silly 1-1000 slides..?

The word "meat" traditionally doesn't include any kind of fish. The picture under "lean meat" is a piece of tuna.

Umm- excuse me! the picture of LEAN MEAT  is a picture of a tuna steak!  Get it right TIME!

Um... last I checked fish was still meat and it's a lean meat at that. Maybe you're thinking that meat only means beef... but they also mention chicken, turkey and pork in that section. They didn't single out one specific type of meat, just meat in general and lean meet at that. When they do single out tuna and salmon in the other sections it's for specific reasons beyond what almost all meat has in common.

Buying  a leaner cut of meat will not help you avoid gaining weight if you have a high content of sugar and carbs in your diet. The saturated fat content and cholesterol in animal meat is a "healthy fat" and your body and your brain need it. I hate reading articles like this that are misleading to folks who have not heard otherwise. Look up the Paleo (paleolithic) diet/lifestyle for more on this issue..also called the caveman diet

You lose all credibility when you include fish, animal secretions, and lean meat.  All of these carry very heavy consequences.  There is no way any of them can ever be good.

So I clicked on this page to find advice about healthy foods and all I hear is noise about weight loss and fat and how to be thin and fat burning and all that. So why is all this about fat burning and the like? I don't need to loose weight. I wanted to hear about healthy foods. Why are these people yakking at me about  weight loss. Shut up!

They are sounding like complete idiots. Stop talking down to me. I am done with these people. I can find healthy food suggestions without being hounded about information I already know and am being told about in such a condescending manner.

I am out of here before the sales pitch begins.

I took the nutrition course at Creighton thiry years ago, and this is one of the main things that I learned: everybody thinks he or she is an expert on nutrition, but almost everyone is biased beyond belief and unable to talk intelligently about the science of food. As you can see from the comments, tempers and insults demonstrate that hardly anyone really knows much about this complex field, but they sure do think they have it down to a science. Chill, people. I'm seventy and I'm still learning, and much of what I learn is that what I believed yesterday is wrong. Chill, chill, chill.

Avoiding processed carbs (almost anything with flour) and added sugar is 90% of  good nutrition. I don't drink milk or eat meat, but I don't think a serving of grass-fed meat or a glass of organic milk in the morning is detrimental to your health. The picture on the slide 'Steal-Cut Oats'is actually a picture of rolled oats, by the way.

Can anyone say 'free advertising' for Dr. Janet. Plus someone who uses splenda, canola oil and whipped topping is suspect to me when they say this is healthy food we should all be eating.

She and most other Doctors do not know anything about preventative medicine. All they know is what they were told, which is push vaccines and prescription drugs on everyone.
