These days, with weekly recalls of everything from cribs and cough medicine to cars and cadmium-tainted products, it can be tough to keep track of which products are being yanked from shelves and storerooms. To make it somewhat easier, the major federal agencies that oversee recalls teamed up to form Recalls.gov, the one-stop site for withdrawn products from food to tires. And, to make the service more portable, the government is developing a new smart phone application for instant recall tracking. Initially, the app will be available for mobile devices using the Android operating system, but developers hope to have apps available for iPhone and Blackberry soon.
