Respondents of the Consumer Reports survey tended to underreport their sugar and fat intake and underestimated their own weights — another indication of poor diet. While 50% copped to being overweight or obese, based on reported weights and heights, researchers calculated that closer to 60% fell into those categories.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also find that Americans aren’t eating as well as they should: a recent report showed that fewer than one-third of American adults get two servings of vegetables a day, despite the recommended five servings or more.
