Runners register as either Human or Undead for this race to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
The “undead” dress in their spookiest zombie costumes and give the “humans” a two-minute head start before they begin their “chase.” Fans and onlookers can partake in the fun, too, by strutting their costumes down the ‘Creep n’ Crawl,’ a mile-long walk along the race route. Since the 2010 inaugural race in 2010, the Night of the Running Dead 5K has grown from 1,200 runners to 3,000 last year.
“Most racers have called our race one of the most fun runs they’ve ever done,” says president and race director Craig Middlemas. “A large percentage of our runners are new to organized racing and have never run a 5K before but are attracted to our race because of it’s unique concept and appeal to zombie and Halloween fans alike.”
