Deighton is an online jewelry and decor store owner living in north eastern New South Wales, Australia, with her partner and two kids, daughter Miss S, 6, and son Tal, 13. Deighton documents their life living in the rainforest, and posts one picture a day of something that she is thankful for, with the hashtag #stb365daysofgrateful.
Deighton and her family have no main water or electricity. They get their water from a nearby spring and rely solely on solar energy for their power. Living in a forested area means wallabies often feed on their front lawn at night and goannas roam around the land throughout the day.
“[My Instagram feed] acts as a gentle reminder for me to be grateful for the little things. I try to capture everyday moments. It’s the little things that take my breath away,” she says. “If people follow my feed, I hope they can see the love that I have for my kids, the gratitude that I have for living in such a beautiful environment, beauty in the everyday. And I hope I am able to share some inspiration.”
Deighton’s followers reach out to her daily, and her daughter now has a pen pal in Oklahoma with whom she corresponds through Instagram. This year, both her kids are in school, and for the first time, Deighton finds herself looking for something beyond the title of “stay-at-home-mom.” “It is daunting and exciting,” says Deighton. “I had a wonderful role model, my mother was an amazing woman who gave her all. She died 16 months ago and I miss her every day.”
