Vote by an FDA advisory panel on Wednesday to withdraw the cancer drug Avastin's approval for the treatment of advanced breast cancer. The final decision now lies with FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg. In a unanimous decision, the federal panel agreed that studies show Avastin has no benefit as a breast-cancer drug and that its risks — which include fatal complications — outweigh its benefits. No matter what Hamburg decides, the drug will remain on the market for the treatment of other cancers. [via CNN]
