Percent of U.S. adults projected to be obese by 2030, if current trends continue — that's 65 million more obese people than in 2010 — according to a new study. The health impact would be dire: 6 to 8.5 million more people with diabetes; 5.7 to 7.3 million more cases of heart disease and stroke; and 490,000 to 670,000 additional cancers. The country's medical costs alone would increase by $48 to $66 billion annually by 2030; add the economic burden of lost productivity associated with a sicker population, and that's another $390 to $580 billion each year.
