Percent of physicians' coats and nurses' scrubs sampled that carried disease-causing bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, according to a new Israeli study. Antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains were found in 6% of the physician samples and 14% of those taken from nurses' clothing. The researchers said it was unknown how frequently bacteria are transferred from health care workers' clothing to patients, but they speculated that better hand hygiene could at least partly reduce clothing contamination.
