Good Morning America correspondent Amy Robach revealed to viewers Monday that she was diagnosed with breast cancer after receiving an on-air mammogram promoting the show’s “GMA Goes Pink” campaign.
After the Oct. 1 segment, Robach, 40, returned for more testing and was diagnosed with breast cancer. She will receive a bilateral mastectomy and reconstructive surgery on Nov. 14.
Robach said she put off the mammogram for over a year, and after much convincing by show host Robin Roberts and other ABC producers, she’s glad she agreed to participate.
“I can only hope my story will do the same and inspire every woman who hears it to get a mammogram, to take a self exam,” she wrote in an online post. “No excuses. It is the difference between life and death.”
