Whipping though holiday chores goes faster if you eat on the run, and drive-thrus at fast food chains like McDonald’s make it easy to grab-and-go. If you find yourself under the golden arches, Warshaw recommends avoiding the Big Mac’s mayonnaise-based special sauce and extra slice of bread in favor of another burger with fewer calories and fat.
The McDouble, for example, is a better option, although it still contains a high amount of sodium. Keeping salt to a minimum will always be a challenge when eating fast food, says Warshaw, but at least you can keep calories and saturated fat levels down. Order water instead of a soda loaded with added sugars, and you can reduce calories from your convenient meal even more.
