During the holidays, the dessert buffet can often be grander than the main meal, a perfect set-up for over-eating. Gingerbread, pumpkin pie, candy canes, cookies–it’s too temping to try a little bit of everything.
But that’s not the best strategy. “The worst thing to do is to take a little of many things. Variety stimulates appetite,” says Blatner. “The more flavors and choices you take, the more likely you are to over eat.”
Blatner recommends reviewing the whole table and picking one of your favorites. “Have a piece–even if it’s the highest calorie thing–with tea or coffee & enjoy,” says Blatner. That way, you won’t feel as if you are depriving yourself and you will still feel satisfied that you could take advantage of the holiday spread.
