My secret to staying healthy over the holidays: Basically, I don’t treat the holidays much different than the rest of the year. I believe in eating 85% to 90% healthy year round, leaving room for the more decadent choices as they arise, and trying to stay active, mostly with yoga. Personally, whenever I go to an event or out for dinner, I grab a snack before hand. This way when I arrive, I can focus on the company and not the food. Typically I pass on all hors d’oeuvres and simply enjoy a cocktail instead. As for the meals, when I have no control over what is being served, I just try to watch my portion sizes. And if I do end up overdoing it, I definitely don’t make the same mistake the following day.
My holiday indulgence: For me, there typically are only year-round indulgences; such as french fries, mashed potatoes and pizza. But perhaps, during the holidays I might have an extra martini, grab one more bite of dessert, or having a little more red meat than usual, keeping my status as a flexitarian.
