My secret to staying healthy over the holidays: I won’t lie; I use holidays to recuperate and rest. With the chilly weather and all the food, it’s a good time for me to give my joints and muscles a break. Over the holidays, I try to incorporate family time into physical activity. If I want to move around, I’ll go on long walks with my dad or play a pick-up game of soccer with my brother.
When it comes to parties, I believe in the expression: “it’s better to make a bad decision than no decision at all.” For me, it’s not about resisting “bad” foods. One night won’t kill anyone. It’s about doing the best to not drive myself crazy over it. So I make a decision to either go for it or not before the party. That way, I don’t spend precious time agonizing over whether to resist or indulge. I can enjoy the company of those around me, with cake or without.
My holiday indulgence: Anything with chocolate in it. I go nuts for my Aunt Susan’s black-and-white cakes.
