Thigpen’s husband is in the Navy, stationed in San Diego while Thigpen and her daughter, Hallie (who turns four on Mother’s Day) live 2,000 miles away in her hometown, Covington, Georgia. “It’s extremely difficult being so far away from him, but we know this is what’s best for us as a family in the long run,” says Thigpen. “He actually made an Instagram account just so he could check up on our daily lives.” Thigpen tries to capture “real life” moments with her daughter so her husband, and her followers, can see both the ups and downs of life with a four year old.
When Thigpen found out she was pregnant, she was 17 and a senior in high school. “Motherhood has shaped me in so many ways. [When I found out I was pregnant] I was in complete shock, but also extremely happy. I have said on my Instagram before that my daughter saved me from myself. She has pushed me to be a better person not only for myself, but for her. It’s funny how such a tiny person can hold such a huge part of your heart,” she says.
While it isn’t easy for Thigpen’s family to live apart, she says they’ve become accustomed to being physically separated. “We send lots of surprise boxes to each other, make sure we FaceTime every day, and just try to always say we love each other as much as possible,” she says.
